Psychotherapy
Therapy is not ‘just talking’ and it’s not ‘just listening’. It’s a special way of paying attention; listening to the themes and threads that emerge from your unique life history and also noticing what isn’t being said or being paid attention to.
As your therapist my job is to safely take you to sometimes unexpected, uncomfortable and what might feel like vulnerable places at times. And vitally to ensure it is therapeutic, containing, healing and most of all strengthening. Together we will get to the heart of what has happened to you, to identify the things that are holding you back. You will be able to establish old triggers, better understand unhelpful patterns and explore any blocked and limiting beliefs.
You will learn a new set of language and new insights to help to bring about new ways of looking at things.
You will be able to identify and apply new coping strategies and learn how to not only identify but to understand and manage your emotions more helpfully. You will also gain a deeper understand of the impact of others on you. How to identify this more clearly, how to increase more self-awareness deepen your understanding of how this plays out on your life.
Psychotherapy is deeply centred on guiding you to develop a new sense of self, a feeling of wholeness and connectedness. You will gain clarity, psychological education leading to greater emotional resilience. You will unlearn the unhelpful behaviours that are getting in the way and better understand the things that are tripping you up right now. Your confidence will grow as your self esteem deepens.
My distinct approach holds together the key principles of mindful awareness and compassionate enquiry so that you can unearth and explore your story in a slow, considered, meaningful way. Whilst my approach is about going deep it’s not about excavating. We are not unnecessarily digging up the past, but we are going to the core of your present wounds to bring about an empowered sense of embodied self-agency. We re- order what you already know and re-establish a bone deep relationship with yourself. Although I am not going to be another person who tells you what to do as they see it I am committed to giving you a sense of direction and understanding.
No worry is silly. If you find yourself spending a lot of time thinking about it and it affects how you feel and how you are around others then it means it’s real for you and that’s something we can work on.
